General Principle

Principle

You have selected an option to control your heater with a wireless thermostat whose purpose is also to conceal the power cable of the heater. For this matter, it is necessary to get the electrical wiring behind the heater. The exact location is irrelevant (provided it is not where you will attach the 2 wall plates, see the manual). Indeed, the heater power cable is long enough to reach any electricity supply zone located behind the heater.

The principle is therefore to insert the radio receiver into your wall socket. Of course your wall socket is equipped with a cover (like a conventional outlet) which you need to remove in order to insert the receiver. Note: the white box delivered with the receiver is unnecessary, you can leave it aside (it is not suitable for the use of our heaters).

Steps

  • You have already set the 2 wall fixing plates supplied with our heaters (see manual).
  • Perform the connection after turning off the power.
  • Remove the cover of your wall socket located behind your heater. When it’s done the outlet box will be empty with just 3 wires (Neutral, Live, Earth) ready to be connected. You won’t need the cover anymore so you can throw it away (you won’t put it back)
  • Using pliers, cut the heater power cable making sure to leave enough length to be able to hang or unhook the heater in the future if necessary. Indeed, if you cut too much of the cable, you won’t be able to attach and detach the heater without the risk of pulling out the wires. Hold the power cable of the heater. Using a wire cutter, cut off the last 30 cm, free and stripp the 3 wires (N =Neutral=Blue, L=Live=Brown, E=Earth=Ground=Yellow/Green).
  • You are now ready for the connection of the wires between the heater, the receiver and the power supply. Follow the diagram below.

  • Connect the Neutral wire (N – blue) of your power supply and the neutral wire of the heater to a lustre terminal or a Wago terminal. Then, connect a small wire between the luster terminal and the N terminal of the receiver. Make that small wire out of any cable (preferably rigid one or use a piece of the heater cable that you cut earlier).
  • Connect the Live wire (L – black or red) of your power supply to a lustre terminal or a Wago terminal. Then, make 2 departures from which one will be connected to the L terminal of the receiver and the other to the penultimate terminal of the receiver.
  • Connect the Live wire (L – black or red) of the heater to the last terminal of the receiver.
  • Do not forget to connect the Ground wire (green-yellow) of the heater to the one of your power supply (not present on the scheme) using a lustre terminal.

The connection is done. You can restore power.

Please read this step as a whole before performing.

Using a pencil or a screwdriver, press the black button (position 3) until red LED starts blinking. Remove (without delay) the pencil and proceed to the next step on the thermostat.

This step is very simple, however pay attention to 2 following points:

if you press down and hold the button on the receiver for too long (and you don’t respect the 5 indicated seconds) you can access a different mode from the learning mode. And so the pairing operation (link) between the thermostat and the receiver will not work. You will have the sensation that the heater doesn’t respond to the orders from the thermostat which will be the case! Also the manipulation on the thermostat must be performed immediately following the step on the receiver. If you are too slow, the receiver may lose its “listening” state and not be receptive for the pairing between them 2.

These control accessories are qualitative electronic equipments. Of course, failure is always possible.

However, as the failures are (very) rare, before declaring any failure, please repeat the pairing operation, this will certainly resolve the problem!

PS: if you have multiple receivers (several heaters in the same room) to be connected to the same thermostat, proceed the same way as for the first one!

*** ENCOUNTERED PROBLEMS ***

  • Symptom: The heater does not respond to the orders of the thermostat, does not turn on and has never worked!
  • Possible causes:
    • get into the Comfort mode (thermostat: triangle in position 2). With the + button set a high temperature (higher than the ambient temperature indicated on the thermostat, for instance 27°C, then confirm with OK/INFO). Within a minute the heater should turn on (you can hear a little noise clack indicating the actuation of the receiver to turn on the heater). Of course the heater takes some time to heat up, so you have to wait 2-3 minutes to feel its surface heating.
    • That didn’t help > Possible causes:
      • A) the initial pairing operation (invisible link between the thermostat and the receiver) has never been made or has not been made correctly. Solution: repeat the operation as indicated in our DEGXEL manual. If the heater has never been turned on, this assumption is VERY likely.
      • B) If despite your attempts, you have not obtained the expected result in the previous step, the receiver or the thermostat is in an unstable mode. This is unlikely but can occur. Follow the procedure to reset the thermostat and the receiver to its base values (press the button on the receiver for more than 10 seconds). Enlevez les piles du thermostat plus de 20 secondes. And repeat the pairing procedure as described in the DEGXEL manual.
      • C) Finally, if that does not work, it might due to a bad regulation mode of the thermostat. The regulation mode to apply is ON/OFF (Std for rooms). Follow the procedure below to put your thermostat back to ON/OFF mode. Then you will need to repeat the initial pairing operation between the thermostat and the receiver once you’ve changed the regulation mode.

      • D) the thermostat is out of reach of the receiver – they do not communicate (distance too great, receiver located behind a wall, CPL plug or disruption of nearby radio devices etc.). Place the receiver to a range of communication as indicated in the manual. Unplug all other disruptive elements (CPL, plug controlled by radio, etc.).
      • E) Finally, if it still doesn’t work, the thermostat may not be in the right control mode. Follow the thermostat reset procedure (at the end of the page), then redo the pairing operation.

*** ENCOUNTERED PROBLEMS ***

  • Symptom: The heater works time to time when it should not operate at all (summer, other)
  • Possible causes:
    • The thermostat cells have been removed or are to be replaced. The cells supplied with the thermostat are basic, do not hesitate to replace them by high capacity cells.
    • The thermostat is out of range (distance, wall) of the heater (hence the receiver).

=> The receiver gets automatically in a degraded mode. Afters 3h of disconnection, the heater will operate for 1 minute every 10 minutes. We recommend not to remove the thermostat cells in summer. You can simply put the heater in anti-frost mode. In that way, if the ambient temperature is higher than 7°C, the heater will not turn on.

*** ENCOUNTERED PROBLEMS ***

  • Symptom: The heater stays turned on while I applied for a stop on the thermostat.
  • Possible causes: you are probably in the wrong mode, that is the one you don’t want. The heater works because the measured ambient temperature is below the target temperature set in the thermostat according to the mode in which it is. Please refer to the detailed manual of the thermostat and choose the mode corresponding to your expectation (auto=set program, comfort, eco, anti-frost).

*** ENCOUNTERED PROBLEMS ***

  • Symptom: The control of my heater has already worked but now the heater does not turn on anymore or does not heat when I want
  • Possible causes:
    • The thermostat cells have been removed or are to be replaced. The cells supplied with the thermostat are basic, do not hesitate to replace them by high capacity cells.
    • The thermostat is not in the mode you expect, so the heater does not produce the expected effects (auto=recorded programs, comfort, eco, anti frost).
    • Finally, if it still doesn’t work, the thermostat may not be in the right control mode. Follow the thermostat reset procedure (at the end of the page), then redo the pairing operation.
    • The thermostat has detected an open window = the open window function has turned off the heater. Pay attention to not place the thermostat in an air flow area that could prevent a proper operation. If the above mentioned elements do not allow to resolve the problem, please reset the thermostat and the receiver and perform the pairing from the beginning by following the manual.Indeed, the failures are extremely rare. In 95% of cases, it’s just a problem of use or an improper setting that does not follow the instructions of the manual. Therefore there is no need to return the equipment for exchange, because the new equipment will produce the same effects.

Cut the 2 yellow-white wires or place a clamp on each wire (which must not be in contact with each other)

Check that the left dial is in position 1

Terminal 1: do not connect anything

Terminal 2 (N): connect the NEUTRAL wire from your power supply to this terminal.

Terminal 3 (Heater neutral): connect the heater neutral (blue) wire to this terminal

Terminal 4 (Heater phase): connect the heater fase (brown, red or black) wire to this terminal

Terminal 5 (L): connect the PHASE wire from your power supply to this terminal

Outside the receiver, connect the green-yellow wire from the heater to the green-yellow wire from the power supply (using a clamp).

 

The connection is complete. You can switch on the power.

 

2. Pairing (linking) operation between the thermostat and the receiver

Insert the batteries into the thermostat:

Open the thermostat housing by applying light pressure with a screwdriver. Remove the blue tab so that the batteries make contact and switch on the thermostat. Close the front panel by simply pressing it.

 

On the receiver (micro-module):

 

1) Red LED flashes every second (if it is not the case, you are not in the start mode and it will not work). Using a screwdriver, press the central button for 3 to 4 seconds. LED starts flashing differently (longer switch-off time). This means that the receiver has switched to “listening” mode.

On the thermostat:

2) Press MODE and + simultaneously for at least 3 seconds: RF00 is displayed.

3) Press the + button repeatedly until “00” flashes, then press + again repeatedly until you reach “RF01”.

To do this correctly, it is sometimes necessary to press hard and repeatedly, alternating short and long presses – see the video below.

 

 

The pairing between the 2 devices is done. Wait a few seconds until RF’01’ stops flashing = 01 01 becomes fixed.

4) click MODE and + simultaneously to return to the home page.

PS: if you have another receiver to pair with the same thermostat, repeat the operation in the same way, changing from RF01 to RF02.

Test for proper functioning:

Using the (+) button on the thermostat, set a higher temperature than the room temperature displayed on the thermostat (e.g. set to 28°C). If the operation has been performed correctly, the receiver will be activated (you will hear a small click, the red LED on the receiver will light up) and the heater will start to heat up (when touched you will feel the heat after several minutes). To turn it off, set the temperature below the room temperature. After one minute, a new click will be heard and the LED on the receiver will go out (the heater is switched off).

*** ENCOUNTERED PROBLEMS ***

  • Symptom: I can’t manage to link (pair) 1 receivers with 1 thermostat
  • Possible causes:
    • 1) The receiver (to be placed behind the heater in a flush-mounted box = cable outlet) is out of range of the thermostat (too large distance, wrong placement behind a partition wall, receiver in an electrical box instead of a flush-mounted box behind the heater, etc.) => place the receiver and thermostat at a distance corresponding to the manufacturer’s recommendations (both in the same room, thermostat 2-3 metres from the receiver).
    • 2) The “clock” dial must be in position 1 as shown.
    • 3) At the top of the receiver, the white and yellow wires must not touch. A small clamp is placed on each of them so that they do not come into contact with each other.
    • 4) Check your connection again. Terminal 1 must not be used, as shown in the diagram.
    • 5) If, despite the above checks, you still cannot switch from RF’00’ to RF’01’, you are in the wrong receiver start-up flashing mode. This means that after several attempts, you start the pairing procedure again from the wrong start flashing mode, so the operation cannot be successful. Another indication that it is in the wrong mode is that the RF ’00’ flashes and then stops flashing almost immediately. To ensure that you start from the correct point, disconnect the power supply for 30 seconds and reconnect it. Check in the video that you are in the correct start-up flashing mode. Press MODE ad +, then + again (’00’ flashing) and wait for it to change to ’01’.

*** ENCOUNTERED PROBLEMS ***

  • Symptom: I can’t manage to link (pair) 2 receivers with 1 thermostat
  • Possible causes:
    • The receiver of one of the 2 heaters is out of thermostat reach (distance, behind a wall, other)
    • => replace the receiver and the thermostat at a distance corresponding to manufacturer’s recommendations. Sometimes when you really can’t switch from RF00 to RF01, press MODE and + briefly and then press + again

*** ENCOUNTERED PROBLEMS ***

  • Symptom: I cannot connect to the app
  • Possible causes:
    • your HOME AUTOMATION BOX must be green or you will not be able to connect to the application. If the box is red it might be in an unstable state. Note if the box is green but flashes it means that it’s downloading updates.
      • your home automation box is not green AND your internet box (BT, virgin, etc.) is operational AND the ethernet cable between the box and the home automation box is plugged AND your mobile device is connected directly to the WIFI of the box (and not a wifi receiver for example) => proceed as follows: press for 5 seconds the reset button on the back and release (passing from fixed IP to DHCP). Your home automation box should go green.
      • your home automation box is green. Reset your password by pressing the reset button for 20 to 22 seconds. Then start the application without entering the password and press CONNECTION. A password will be asked. Enter a password of at least 8 alphanumeric characters. You will be asked to confirm it. That’s your new password. Please connect normally to your application.
